Long Bond Paper Size: Inches, cm, Pixels, and How to Set It in Word, Google Docs & PDF

"Long bond paper" is one of those Philippine standards that the software world does not know about. Word, Google Docs, Canva and most PDF tools offer Letter, A4 and Legal — and none of those is Long. Here are the exact numbers, how Long compares with Short, A4 and Legal, how to set it in the apps people actually use, and how to print an A4 PDF on Long paper without the margins or clipping.

Long Bond Paper Size

8.5 × 13 inches = 21.59 × 33.02 cm (215.9 × 330.2 mm). At 300 DPI that is 2550 × 3900 pixels; in PDF points it is 612 × 936. Internationally the same sheet is called Folio, and some printer drivers list it as "Legal 13" or "8.5 × 13".

Long vs Short vs A4 vs Legal

• Long is not Legal. Legal is a full inch longer (14 in). Pick Legal in Word for a Long document and the print will scale down or clip at the bottom.
• Short is not A4. Short is US Letter (8.5 × 11). A4 is 0.23 in narrower and 0.69 in longer. They look similar; they are not interchangeable for forms with fixed boxes.
• Long and Short share a width (8.5 in), which is why a Short document prints fine on Long paper with blank space at the bottom — and why a Long document printed on Short loses its last two inches.

How to Set Long Bond Paper Size In…

Microsoft Word

1. Layout (or Page Layout) → Size → More Paper Sizes…
2. Width 8.5", Height 13" (or 21.59 × 33.02 cm) → OK.
3. When printing, choose the same size in the printer dialog ("Folio", "8.5 × 13" or a custom size). If the driver has no Long option, add a custom paper size in the printer's preferences once.

Google Docs

1. File → Page setup.
2. Paper size → Folio (8.5" × 13") → OK (tick "Set as default" if you always use Long).

Excel / Google Sheets

Excel: Page Layout → Size → More Paper Sizes → pick Folio or set a custom 8.5 × 13. Google Sheets: File → Print → Paper size → Folio.

Canva, PowerPoint, Photoshop

Create a custom size of 8.5 × 13 in (or 2550 × 3900 px at 300 DPI for image editors). Export as PDF for printing.

How to Print an A4 (or Letter) PDF on Long Bond Paper

This is the common headache: the form you downloaded is A4, the office wants it on Long, and the printer either shrinks it with fat margins or cuts the edges. The clean fix is to change the PDF's page size first:

1. Open the free PDF to Long bond paper converter and upload the PDF (it stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded).
2. Long bond (8.5 × 13) is pre-selected. Keep Fit so nothing is cut off, click Convert.
3. Download, then print at 100% / Actual size with Long / Folio selected as the paper.

Why "Fit to Page" Is Not the Same

Printer dialogs offer "Fit to printable area", which shrinks an A4 page to sit inside Long paper. It works, but it scales unpredictably (A4 is narrower, so the page shrinks by width and leaves a large blank band), and forms with boxes that must measure exactly — PDS, bank forms, ballots — come out the wrong size. Converting the PDF to a real 8.5 × 13 page and printing at 100% is repeatable and exact.
