Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 19, 2026

Toolism (“we”, “us”) provides free online utilities at toolism.app. This policy explains what data the site touches, what we keep (very little), and the choices you have. The short version: your files are yours, we delete them immediately after processing, and we never sell your data.

Files you process with our tools

Many tools — including the JSON formatter, text diff, word counter, password generator, image converter, PDF merger, and PDF splitter — run entirely in your browser. Files and text you use with these tools never leave your device and are never transmitted to us.

Tools that need server-side processing (for example video conversion, image compression, subtitle generation, and background removal) upload your file to our server, process it in a short-lived temporary file, and stream the result back to you. Temporary files are deleted automatically as soon as the result is delivered or the request ends. We do not open, review, index, or back up the content you process, and we keep no copy of it.

What we do store

Short links. The URL shortener creates links through third-party services (CleanURI, with is.gd as a fallback). The URL you shorten is sent to those services, which host the redirect under their own privacy policies — we keep no link database of our own.

Bug reports. If you submit a bug report, we store your description, the tool it concerns, your browser version and screen size, and — only if you choose to provide it — your email address, used solely to follow up on your report.

Local preferences. Your theme, favorite tools, recently used tools, and cookie choices are stored in your browser’s localStorage. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.

Analytics

We use a self-hosted, privacy-focused analytics tool (Umami) to count page views and understand which tools are used. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not track you across other websites. IP addresses are not stored with analytics data.

Rate limiting

To keep the service available for everyone, our API temporarily holds request counts per IP address in server memory. These counters expire automatically within minutes and are never written to a database.

Advertising

Toolism does not currently show ads. If we introduce advertising in the future, this policy will be updated first, any advertising cookies will be subject to your consent choices, and the consent banner will let you accept or decline non-essential cookies before any are set.

Third-party services

The support page links to Buy Me a Coffee for donations; payments are handled entirely by that service under its own privacy policy. The currency converter fetches exchange rates from a third-party rate provider; your query (the currency pair) is the only thing sent.

Your rights

Since we hold almost no personal data, there is usually nothing to request — but if you submitted a bug report with your email and want it deleted, or created a short link you want removed, contact us via the bug report button on any tool page and we will action it promptly. Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/EEA under GDPR or California under CCPA), you may have additional statutory rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, which we honor.

Children

Toolism is a general-audience website and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes (such as introducing advertising) will be highlighted on the site.
