How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the content. Scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs routinely shrink by 70–90%, because images are recompressed and downsampled. Text-only PDFs that are already efficient shrink less — and if compression would not help at all, the tool tells you honestly and returns your original rather than a worse file.
Can I compress a PDF to exactly 1 MB (or 500 KB, or 100 KB)?
Yes — switch to target size mode, enter your limit, and the tool compresses in progressively stronger passes until the file fits under it. If the content physically cannot fit the target without becoming unreadable, you get the smallest achievable file plus a clear note that the target was missed.
Will compression ruin the quality of my PDF?
The Recommended preset keeps images at 150 DPI, which looks clean on screens and in normal printing. Choose High Quality (300 DPI) for print-critical documents, or Lossless to keep every pixel untouched while still removing duplicate data, unused objects, and structural bloat. Text stays razor-sharp at every level — it is never rasterized.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
No — encrypted PDFs cannot be rebuilt without the password. Remove the password first, then compress. The tool detects this case and tells you clearly instead of failing silently.
