Which video formats can I convert to GIF?
Anything ffmpeg can read — which is virtually every video format in use, including MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV, and phone-camera footage. Just drop the file in and the tool handles the rest.
Why is my GIF limited to 30 seconds?
GIF is a very inefficient format: every frame is stored as a full indexed-colour image, so file size grows rapidly with length. Capping clips at 30 seconds keeps output sizes practical for chat apps and websites. For longer content, a video format like MP4 or WebM is almost always the better choice.
What settings give the smallest GIF file?
Lower the frame rate and width. 10 FPS at 480 px — the defaults — is a good balance for most clips. Dropping to 320 px, keeping the duration short, and avoiding busy, fast-moving footage all shrink the result dramatically. 30 FPS at 1280 px looks great but can produce very large files.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes — input videos up to 200 MB are supported, which is plenty for the short clips GIFs are made from. Only the segment you select is processed, so a large source file converts just as fast.
Are my videos stored on your servers?
No. Your upload is written to a short-lived temporary file so ffmpeg can process it, and both the video and the generated GIF are deleted from the server as soon as the result has been delivered to your browser. Nothing is kept, logged, or shared.
