About GWA Calculator
Your General Weighted Average (GWA) is the grade that scholarships, Latin honours, shifting and admissions look at, and it is easy to get wrong by averaging grades without their units. This free GWA calculator does it properly: enter each subject’s grade and units, and it computes Σ(grade × units) ÷ Σ units instantly, to four decimals, on whichever scale your school uses — the 1.00–5.00 scale of UP, UST, PUP and most state universities, the 4.0 scale of DLSU and Ateneo, or plain percentages. Pick your school and it also shows the Latin-honours cut-offs from that school’s handbook and tells you whether your GWA is in range.
The converter tab turns a percentage grade into its 1.00–5.00 equivalent (97–100 = 1.00, 94–96 = 1.25 … 75 = 3.00, below 75 = 5.00 — the typical PH table; schools vary slightly). Everything runs in your browser, nothing is saved or sent anywhere, and it works on a phone between classes.
How to compute your GWA
- 1Choose your grading scale or school (UP, UST, other 1.00–5.00, DLSU, Ateneo, other 4.0, or percentage).
- 2Type each subject’s final grade and its number of units. Leave the subject name blank if you like; add rows with “+ Add subject”.
- 3Read your GWA in the panel — it updates as you type — along with total units, whether it is passing, and which Latin honour range it falls in for the selected school.

Frequently asked questions
How is GWA computed?
GWA = (sum of each grade multiplied by its units) ÷ (sum of the units). For example, 1.50 in a 3-unit subject and 2.00 in a 5-unit subject gives (1.50×3 + 2.00×5) ÷ 8 = 1.8125. Units matter: a 5-unit subject pulls the average more than a 1-unit PE class.
What GWA do I need for cum laude?
It depends on the school. UP: cum laude 1.75, magna 1.45, summa 1.20 (or better). UST: 1.451–1.750 / 1.201–1.450 / 1.000–1.200. DLSU (4.0 scale): 3.400, 3.600, 3.800, with honorable mention from 3.200. Ateneo (QPI): 3.50, 3.70, 3.87, honorable mention 3.35. Is a lower GWA better?
On the 1.00–5.00 scale, yes — 1.00 is the highest grade and 3.00 is usually the passing mark (5.00 is a fail). On 4.0 scales and percentages, higher is better. The calculator knows which way each scale runs.
How do I convert a percentage to the 1.00–5.00 scale?
The common table: 97–100 = 1.00, 94–96 = 1.25, 91–93 = 1.50, 88–90 = 1.75, 85–87 = 2.00, 82–84 = 2.25, 79–81 = 2.50, 76–78 = 2.75, 75 = 3.00, below 75 = 5.00. UP, UST and others have slightly different bands, so treat it as typical, not official.
Do NSTP, PE or INC subjects count?
Usually credited subjects with units count; check your school’s rule on PE/NSTP (UP excludes NSTP from the honours GWA, for instance). Leave out subjects your school excludes, or give them 0 units.
